Some of you commented on the new coffee table in my Slipcover update post. That is acutally not a new coffee table, but the result of a loving husband FINALLY reading the pin I sent him of the Ikea hack coffee table update by The Feminist Mystique months ago and while I was away at NTEN; surprising me by doing the project. Here are some of the pictures he took along the way.

If you're artsy, drill holes on the ends, cut the heads off of masonry nails and hammer them in.

I love the masonry nail look. I don’t think people actually need to drill in screws to get a secure top and it looks much better then the drilled screws I have seen in other posts. Did you use wood glue or industrial glue? I hope to do this next weekend! I am thinking of staggering the wood planks, making some sorter and longer. This may be tricky since I don’t have a saw. I will have to measure and get them to cut them as I like. Thanks for the easy post.

Did you sand the coffee table before gluing the wood down? I Glued mine last night and am worried that it won’t stick well. Thanks!

Hey Hope, we did not sand the coffee table, just used pretty heavy duty glue. You should be fine. Just put some heavy stuff on top of the planks to make sure they stay down until they’re completely dry. I’d love it if you send me a link to some pictures once your finished! Good Luck!
